Sassymonkey's Challenge

Well, pooh, I just can't resist a challenge and I may be too late (don't know, don't care - feel like crap and just want to go to bed) but Sassymonkey has issued an October Challenge and I'm joining, whether I'm on time or not. Because I'm reading a Chunkster, it will be a real challenge just to get through The Chunkster and a couple more. Here's what I hope to finish during the remaining weeks of October:

1. The Once and Future King by T. H. White - The cover says it's the greatest fantasy classic of all time. Huh. I'm not a reading snob but I was sure I didn't read fantasy. Apparently, I'm wrong. I'll read absolutely anything that grabs me.

2. Snow Flower and The Secret Fan by Lisa See - A group read. I've been so off-kilter I've worried I won't be able to read along but I want to try.

3. The Thirteenth Tale by whoever . . . gah. I'm tired. I'll look another time.

Sassymonkey has an excellent blog. Do check it out if you've missed it.

Off to soak and crash.

  1. I've had so many people tell me that I need to read The Once and Future King. I actually got interested in it after seeing Magneto reading it in X-Men 2.

  3. Good for you to take up the challenge. I keep thinking I should, but I"m going to relax this month and read whatever catches my eye. I have a copy of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, too, but haven't read it yet. Soon. And same with The Thirteenth Tale. I was going to start it last night, but was on such a high from finishing The Book Thief, I didn't want to start something new! I wound up thumbing through my HTML for Dummies book before falling asleep.

  4. I read SNOW FLOWER and enjoyed it. I rated it a 4/5.

I'm sending your package today. It's ready to go. :)

    Happy Reading!

  5. Brandon,

Thanks for visiting my blog! I'm assuming "The Sword in the Stone" - the Disney cartoon - is based on "The Once and Future King". I just read, for example, the bit about Wart and Merlyn turning into fish, last night. It's wonderful, so far. There are a lot of technical terms that have to do with such things as horses and jousting, farming, etc., that I can't even find in my dictionary; but, once you get into it the book really sweeps you away. I say go for it. :)

    Angela,

I'm really enjoying participating in reading challenges. I don't care if I "win" anything; it's just nice to feel like I've accomplished something I set out to do, you know? Hope you'll join in!

    Les,

It's awfully difficult to move on to the next book after reading a novel like "The Book Thief". I remember I felt the same way. I just had to let it soak in for a day or two before moving on. I hope we both end up reading Snow Flower and Thirteenth Tale. I love reading your thoughts and it would be especially fun to see how our thoughts compare; we have yet to read the same book at the same time!

  6. Joy,

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Snow Flower! My son is still asleep and it's almost noon, so we're slow to get going, but I hope to get yours in the mail this afternoon, as well. :) Thanks!
